My Embarrassing TBR | Summer Reading 2016

I made a pact with myself. That I am going to finally read all those intimidating books that I’ve been avoiding for months before the fall semester starts. All the books that have plagued numerous TBR’s month after month and were never picked up. This summer I’m going to finally read them. So, sorry if it sounds like a broken record with these same books appearing over and over. Comment below if you’ve read any and motivate me!

 The Diviners   name-of-the-wind

The Diviners by Libba Bray |  The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

I have the same issue when it comes to these two, they’re both MASSIVE paperbacks.

Spring Awakening:
Favorite Translated Book

This is the book I’m reading right now and the writing is so beautiful that I have never read anything like this book. It’s suspenseful, it’s mysterious and it’s so atmospheric. You feel like you’re in Barcelona on the misty streets being pursued by a stranger right along with the main character.

Into the Woods:
Favorite Fairy Tale Retelling

Anyone who’s seen this blog know that I love this series, especially the first book. I fell in love with this book at the first page. The elements of Beauty and the Beast that come in to the story are so perfectly placed and sometimes unexpected that this book has stuck with me since I read it and probably always will.

Beauty and the Beast:
A Book from your childhood

The only answer to this question is the Harry Potter series. Nothing screams childhood to me like Hogwarts. I’m not going home, not really.

The Best Character Development

There are very few characters in this book, but all of them develop so beautifully through out the story. Especially the protagonist, Victor. In a way, I fell in love with his madness and in love with him as the story progressed.

The Phantom of the Opera:
Least Favorite Love Triangle

Ruin and Rising

Once again, I will scream this. MAL DID NOT BELONG IN HER LIFE AS A LOVE INTEREST. I really wish it would have been just The Darkling and Nikoli. They’re opposites, but both have their own special qualities, quirks and personalities. Mal on the other hand was just kind of awkwardly putsing around in the series trying not to die. Maybe I’m alone in this opinion, but I don’t think Mal contributed anything to the series at all.

Favorite Group of Friends

I absolutely love all of the Misfit characters in this book. You could argue that they’re not exactly “friends”. But I couldn’t think of anyone other than Kaz and the rest of them. There are all different types of personalities in this group that somehow flow together beautifully.

West Side Story:
Favorite Spin Off/Adaption

Is there really any other choice? Tessa, Will and Jem forever.

Les Miserables:
Most Tragic Death

Fred. 😦

Star Crossed Lovers/Tragic Love Story

Is there a more beautiful and tragic love story? I certainly haven’t read one. I love Celia and Marco’s relationship.

A Book that made you Love the genera

This was my first YA novel and it’s the one that got me hooked. Or should I say booked?

Please feel free to do this tag! But make sure you tag me so I can see what you answered!

Top Ten Tuesdays | Ten Characters I always want to revist

Since I’m a rebel, I decided to change up the topic because I didn’t read much when I was young other than Harry Potter. So, if I went with the given topic, every answer would be a Harry Potter character. I found that this suited me better.

10. Jace
The Mortal Instruments Series
Heavenly Fire
I started reading The Mortal Instruments years ago, even though I only completed the series last year. Jace was really the first character that aroused my interested in the series (first, not only). His cleverly phrased insults and comments as well as his mysterious demeanor drew me in from the second he showed up.

9. Rhysand
A Court of Thorns and Roses Series
I never disliked Tamlin, he just isn’t for me. At the start of the book, I actually wished Lucien was the love interest. That is, until Rhysand showed up. And I’ll just start off by saying, I KNOW, he’s problematic. But you know what, this is fiction, we can make exceptions. His smooth manner of speaking, the way he always seems to be a step ahead of everyone else and the way he always sends chills up my spine are just a few of the reasons I will always want to revisit Rhysand.

I have not read A Court of Mist and Fury yet. Please do not spoil.

8. Kell
A Darker Shade of Magic Series
I don’t really know if it’s Kell as a character of just all of the cool places that he gets to jump around to, but he was definitely my favorite in the series. Kell would be my ideal travel companion, he doesn’t talk too much, he doesn’t overreact about things, he’s just Kell.

I have not read A Gathering of Shadows yet. No spoilers please.

7. The Darkling
The Grisha Series
Ruin and Rising
Although my official Grisha ship will always be Nikoli/Alina, The Darkling was by far my favorite character. He’s so flawed, but at the same time you just always want to know more about him. You want to know the detailed story of how he rose to power especially, or at least I did. I found him to be the most intriguing character in the series. He’s the epitome of a horrible boyfriend choice. I know that. But there’s a strange attraction to him that I have, and I know I’m not alone there. If Leigh Bardugo could do an entire series just about him, that would be excellent.

6. Celaena Sardothien
Throne of Glass Series
How can you love Celaena at least a little bit? I just love her attitude. She know’s she’s the best and isn’t afraid to show it. Even her stubborn attitude is something I love about her. She’s unparalleled in the series (Sorry Manon fans, but it’s true). She definitely isn’t afraid to be who she is and she doesn’t apologize for anything. Every time I crack open one of the Throne of Glass books, she’s what I’m looking forward to.

I have not read Queen of Shadows yet. No spoilers please!

5. The Peculiar Children
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
I couldn’t pick just one. But if I REALLY had to it would probably be Millard. But I think they can’t really be separated from one another when choosing them. They’re a package deal and they are all fantastic. The way they interact with one another is so fantastic and the general feeling you get while reading when they’re all together is nothing short of magical, strange and mystifying.

I have no completed Hollow City of Library of Souls. No spoilers please. Sorry I have to keep saying this. =( I’m behind on a few series.

4. Tessa Grey
The Infernal Devices Trilogy
Clockwork Princess
Tessa to me is the epitome of class. She speaks so eloquently and she is such a beautiful character. She almost feels like that very passive yet passionate friend in your group that’s always there to offer a kind word. I felt very close to Tessa in so many ways that I wish she would get another series.

3. Magnus Bane
The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices and The Bane Chronicles

From the second he showed up in City of Bones, Magnus has been my favorite in The Mortal Instruments. There’s definitely some rivalry when we’re talking about The Infernal Devices. But he’s the one character that really sticks out. He’s powerful, sensual and genuine. His quirks and his mannerisms are what make him so lovable in every way. Anytime Magnus is in a scene, I’m 100% invested in it. Reading about him is like revisiting a long lost friend.

Again, I have not read The Bane Chronicles yet (I know, I’m sorry) no spoilers!

2. Hermionie Granger
Harry Potter
I aspire to be more like Hermionie every day. I think everyone who reads Harry Potter just instantly loves Hermionie. If I were at Hogwarts, I’d want to be her best friend. Even though I myself am a Slytherin. We aren’t all pureblood elitists. But Hermionie’s parts and dialogue were always the parts of the books I looked forward to the most.

Drumroll please…..

  1. 1. Lestat de Lioncourt
    The Vampire Chronicles
Lestat was my first literary love, and first loves die hard. I have been dying to reread this series! I’m planning on it towards the fall/winter season when I’m in the mood for a good horror read. I fell in love with Lestat so hard when I was younger and still to this day I think of him as one of my all time favorite literary characters. He’s so suave and swoon worthy, I don’t know how anyone could dislike him.
  2. Let me know your thoughts on my choices!
Remember, don’t spoil in the comments, I will be really sad if I get spoiled for anything. Seriously. I could cry.
