Top 10 Tuesday | Top 10 Book Characters I Ship Myself With

So, it’s a Freebie. Pick your own. I thought pretty hard about this and all I could think about (because I am hungover from Clockwork Princess still) was Will Harondale. I got it bad, guys. My heart. It hurts.

But if we’re all going to be honest here, we all have characters we ship ourselves with. Come on. Admit it.

All pictures I included are how I pictured the characters or the ones that are cannon. Let me know what you thought they looked like in the comments! 😀

10. Helene from An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Penguin_Ember_Sabaa_Helene

If you’ve read An Ember in the Ashes you know Helene. She’s the main character’s best friend. But she’s also one of the most badass female characters I’ve ever read. She’s intelligent, an expert strategist and always had her head on straight. She’s one of the few characters in that book I didn’t want to scream at every few pages. From the first time they mentioned her I was thinking “Where do I fill out an application to be HER slave?” and “How is Elias NOT in love with her? Is his head screwed on backwards?”. How could you not fall in love with a girl so loyal and faithful that it breaks your heart anytime her best friend chooses a stranger over her? TEAM HELENE. EVERY TIME.

9. Kel from A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab

Kel 2

I’ll admit this ten times over, I love dark broody male characters that stalk about on dangerous missions. Kel being one of the few who can travel between parallel worlds with mysterious dark powers and a positive moral compass, I was immediately drawn to him. I think more than Kel as a character himself, his companion Lila really bothered me. I found myself wanting to scream “I WOULD BE A BETTER COMPANION. PICK ME.”. As he got darker later on in the book, well, my affection for him didn’t change one bit. By the end of the book I was positively smitten. Damn it, Victoria Schwab, WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME.

8. The Darkling from The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

The Darkling

By now, you’ve probably figured out I have a thing for Anti-Heroes and that’s what The Darkling was. From the first moment he shows up, I was just thinking here we go again. In the three possible love interests for Alina, I was actually backing the mysterious pirate. But something about his stoic, cold attitude is insanely sexy to me. I feel like The Darkling just oozed sexuality and that was probably intentional. He was so commanding, and yes, somewhat evil and every manipulative. But this is fantasy not real life. I’m allowed to be in love with evil people in my imagination. OKAY?

7. Rhys from A Court of Thorns and Roses from Sarah J. Maas

Rhys

I remember mid book when he showed up and I was like WHO IS THAT. WHO IS THAT. TELL ME MORE. PLEASE. WHERE ARE YOU GOING STRANGER. COME BACK. And then he showed up again and I was so excited. I literally dropped the book. This was me.

Every time he showed up, I just got so excited and wanted to know EVERYTHING about him and the Night Court. That’s the #1 thing I am looking forward to in the next book. The Night Court. AKA: Where I belong.

6. Victor from Vicious by V. E. Schwab

Victor Vicious

It took me far too long to find this picture on google. I remember seeing it in on a Tumblr post about Vicious and I was like YAS.

Again, with the anti-heroes. Victor really was a mad scientist and something about that was just so attractive. If anything attracts me, it’s above average intelligence, and oh by did Victor have that. All of his insane theories and ideas (which totally ended up being true) and the way he presented them just drew me in so close. I honestly felt closer to Victor than anyone else in V.E. Scwab/Victoria Schwab’s books. The way he thought felt so similar to the way I do that it was insta-love for me.

5. Isabelle Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments Series

Isabelle Lightwood

Where do I even begin? Everything about Isabelle is just…YES. Sassy, sexy, fearless and can use anything as a weapon. Do I really have to go in to more than that? NO. NO I DO NOT. I would gladly shove Simon out of the way to get in good with that beautiful lady.

4. Draco Malfoy from The Harry Potter Series

Okay, okay. Before you all MURDER ME. Just hear me out. PUT AWAY THE PITCH FORKS AND TORCHES. (Spoilers to follow. SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS  SPOILERS)

This did not develop until The Half-Blood Prince. Before the sixth installment in to the series, I followed everyone else in thinking Malfoy nothing more than a pig faced bigot. But after reading The Half-Blood Prince I realized that Draco was as much a victim of Voldemort’s campaign as Harry was. Draco was raised to be hateful. So when he first meets Harry, of course he’s going to be a little shit. Then as the series goes on the bullying sort of declines in severity until we find out Voldemort has ordered Draco to kill Dumbledore. THINK ABOUT IT. Out of spite for Draco’s father, Voldemort uses Draco as a pawn to get back at his father for what he sees as disloyalty. NOT as a teenager, but a PAWN. Then I just kind of realized, maybe Draco acted like such an ass because he was just trying to convince himself that his family had some good in their opinions and weren’t evil. I just imagined how much Draco must have been suffering and it made me sympathize with him. And then I was like “I would ship myself with Draco post Battle of Hogwarts. Totes.”

3. Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices Trilogy by Cassandra Clare

Will Herondale

Will Herondale. You have broken my heart about fifty times. I really hate you, but yeah..I can’t hate you at all. Everything about Will screams soulmate for me. He’s intelligent, he quotes lines from books and poetry, he’s strong and unafraid to be who he really is. He may be arrogant. But he’s allowed to be. Because he is perfect. No one will tell me otherwise. Guys, I seriously had my heart ripped out after Clockwork Princess. I mean REAL tears. Not just “omg I cried”. I actually cried. I was seriously distraught for like an hour.

2. Lestat de Lioncourt from The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice

Lestat de Lioncourt

Okay, here’s a confession. Lestat was my FIRST book love. I read The Vampire Chronicles in high school and fell hard for the very seductive Lestat de Lioncourt. And I mean, I didn’t know you could be seduced by a book character until Lestat. I had already had plenty of “book loves” like Jay Gatsby and Mr. Rochester. But never a sexual attraction to a book character. I can’t even explain why. But Lestat is someone I would love to give up my human life for in exchange for an immortal one. Seriously. That vampire.

  1. Magnus Bane from The Mortal Instruments

-The-Mortal-Instruments-City-of-Bones-official-illustrated-companion-photos-magnus-bane-35360743-1536-1902

It’s revealed. My one true book love. ❤ Magnus Bane ❤ The main reason I convinced myself to read The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments by order of publication was because I found out Magnus was in The Infernal Devices. I want all of the Magnus all of the time. Intelligent, clever, witty, mysterious, beautiful, immortal, warlock. Can you get any more perfect than that? NO. YOU CANNOT. I first fell in love with Magnus in City of Bones. It started out as just a little thought of could he become my new favorite character? Can he be better than Jace? Yes. Yes he can. Everything Jace fails at, Magnus succeeds at. And really, where would the Shadowhunters be without Magnus there to clear things up? They’d be dead. That’s where they’d be. I can’t even tell you how excited I am to get to The Bane Chronicles. I’m staying true and reading all the books in order. Even though I’ve wanted to peek in ahead.

Hope you enjoyed! Comment/like/love me.

  1. I totally get you! Not a lot of people like him, but Draco was one of my favourite characters from the book, from the start (I know, I know, but I have a thing for “villains”) and even more so because I’m a proud Slytherin! (What about you, is it Ravenclaw?) Aaagh I get the Will Herondale feels. It’s overwhelming really, but if you ever want to discuss his amazingness and superior being, I’m always up for it 😀
